What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)
Posted by: Richard Dane on 29 December 2011
With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

A perfect record:
From the same year and album, a somewhat incongruous appearance with his grooviest band on the afternoon talkshow circuit:
David is 65 today.
Have a listen to the BBC Radio6music show that was on at midday today on the 6 music site .
Some great live concert moments and some great input from the late great John Peel and a host of others..
Stu.
Beautifully crafted and performed jazz vocal
This Great album
Some sound tracks are awesome...this is one of them
Probably my favourite guitar player.
Howard,
I have the pro-mo of that fantastic album.
It has one extra track on it.
Stu.
Now this brilliant album.
lots of interesting stuff on here...
Popped up the pub for a couple of shandies last night and was reading about this chap in the Telegraph
Now listening thim on Spoitfy...rather nice I must say.
And in honour of the King
As today would of been his birthday.
Down the gym. Funky afrobeat.
Cheers

Dusty,
He is better than rather nice imo.
Joe Whiley played a live session track of his (Tell Me A Tale) on her show just before the David Bowie BBC 2002 concert on her show last week.
That and the live session track by Amy LaVere,
Bowie's Moonage Daydream were the best two things i have heard this year so far.
I was just blown away by both.
You can still listen to them on the BBC radio 2 site.
Stu.
24 Bit download.
24 Bit download.
floid,
What do you think of it?
Its in my let downs box of 2011.
I find it very bland.

Cheers Stu.
I really enjoy reading/hearing about new talent in a world of imo weak X Factor so called artists.
Good to see cream always rises to the top.

IMO Steve should just make a album every four or even more years,
And make sure its a good one.

Yep, It's almost a surprise he's made it to 65 - I'm sure I've read before that he can't even remember making that album.
Other than for the footie, I never listen to my DAB tuner, so would never have known about that programme. Found it online and bookmarked it for some time in the week. Thanks fella.
(PS Your Ian Botham story after my lame Kraftwerk post the other day made me chuckle.)

When I first got this I felt the same as you so left this one alone for a while.
Just started to listen to this again. I'm glad I came back to this as it is just now beginning to sink in. I would say give it another go, I quite like it now.
A brilliant recording and one of my 2011 favourites.
The last few weeks I have been playing loads of King Crimson and Springsteen which has been fun. Now for a change of scenery with this lovely recording.
Playing the opening 11 minute track "Glass Jar", which was heard HMV Oxford St. this afternoon.
Another inspired top concerto recording in my books. Stephen Hough in top form here giving an astounding, new and fresh reading you won't hear anywhere else.
Sampled on The Weeknd's 'Loft Music', an album that all sounds the same, in a good way:
A track from next month's new Air album featuring the dreamy vocals of Beach House's Victoria Legrand has recently surfaced online, though like most Air these days, it sounds pretty ropy to these ears on first listen: 'Seven Stars'
Was listening to Montreal from Echoes of Silence today, that, into outside and then XO/The Host and Initiation is a match for the first album in terms of quality I reckon, though I don't think you're keen on Initiation?
