What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Classic. Never sounded better than this, an excellent job done on this by Steven Wilson.

A gift from a friend, again. Original London Blueback.

This has got to be one of the ugliest record album cover.
Whilst Maag's direction is upbeat and expressive, ( much better than Kletzi version I have ) the tunes seem to go on willy nilly except the Military Wedding March.

The London cover art at the time was very peculiar, I kinda like it so.

Steve,

Yes it is a excellent album.

Also one of the better sounding vinyl releases from last year.

Enjoy.

Love this album.

Its about time they tried to top it with a new album?

IMO its going to be a very hard act to follow though.

They might have exaggerated their importance in the title, but CCS's Best Band In The Land has some very good moments and of course it features the incomparable God Father of British Blue, Alexis Korner. The open track is a classic with its immortal opening verse.

The loudness wars might have started sooner than we first thought??

A very stylishly packaged recording of Bach's sonatas for violin and keyboard. The performance is excellent on the whole, although Mullova's and Dantone's lively style doesn't allow much room for the serious, contemplative Bach (unlike her earlier, miraculous, incomplete recording for Philips).

Cheers,

Now something from the wonderful Kate Walsh.

I wish she would put her albums out on vinyl?

If you have this on CD, try it on vinyl, original , if possible. Trust me, you'll dump your cd copy!

I think that you are due to own at least one ECM album.

Why's that, Haim, something special with this label? There are two ECM albums on the shortlist, actually: Schumann quartets by the Zehetmair Quartet and chamber music by Shostakovich and Schnittke.

Cheers,

EJ

EJ,

Plenty of quality performances on ECM and their sound is always impeccable.

The Zehetmair Quartet's Schumann is very good as well as his solo violin sonatas of Ysaye:

Other ECMs which I cherish are:

Try them and you won't regret. You might as well consult with Adrian who owns every disc of the label.

Regards,
