What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Anyway, links:

My latest vinyl acquisition. Couldn't wait any longer, had to play it. A good time is being had by all.

Thing is she really did look that good!

Jono

She was a bit of a fox Jono, but also a great singer (love that sexy Southern drawl), songwriter and producer. Her retirement in the late 70s was a big loss to music.

The quality is a bit ropey but I love this clip of her singing the brilliant "Okalona River Bottom Band" (another of her compositions) with Bing Crosby in the late '60s. Effortless, just effortless.

And this clip of her doing Fancy on Johnny Cash's show - what a goddess!

Controversial I know, but I think her version of Son of A Preacher Man is even better than Dusty's.

Mumford & Sons - Sigh No More

Too bad for the cuss words; I can see my 6 yr old bouncing around to some of the tracks.

On 180g black stuff.

'Missed A Spot'

Wilco - Sky Blue Sky

Been listening to this more lately, after disappearing from the rotation due to a lot of new music.  Love the guitar melodies.

BTW, Apple Lossless on iPod Classic.  Nice to have the 160GB hd so I can load it up with lossless files.  Was a revelation to hear this vs. MP3 on the iPod.

I like the performance on this record a lot but my later 'GT2' reissue is a bit noisy and overall a bit thin sounding so was wondering how the new reissue is.

Kuma, I am not sure how you can tell on this one which reissue?  I got it from JPC so I presume it is a Clearaudio record.  Whatever the reissue though, it is a noisy one.  This is probably one example of where I'll return to my complete CD copy more often.

New on ECM

I have been working my way through this complete set of John O'Conor.  I quite like him and wonder why I waited so long to get acquainted.

Is yours one of the very limited 1000 copies, first pressings, release?

Cool, it's maybe my favourite of theirs - just got to 'Electronic Renaissance' - always reminds me of dancing with the beautiful girl who bought it for me (siiiigh). Unlike you, I'm sure I already had at least the next two, and only got mine when it was reissued.

Have you got an original vinyl copy, by any chance? As you maybe know, they're worth loads...

I am  lucky enough to own one of the original pressings.  Along with Arab Strap, the creativity is what keeps me interested in  their work.

Brilliant stuff!
