What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

Posted by: Richard Dane on 29 December 2011

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Excellent - look after that one.  I expect you have everything of theirs if you have an original Tigermilk.

I have all the albums (and a couple of EPs) up to The Life Pursuit, and whenever I hear them again now, they almost remind me of a different (cardigan-owning) version of myself, if you know what I mean? Having heard Stuart's God Help The Girl album, I seem to have finally given up on B&S, and didn't get their last album. Anyways, I'm waffling, and...

...annoyingly, I can't remember all the words to 'Like Dylan In The Movies' *...

* Top tip: Never worry about how bad you are at singing - Stuart Murdoch is worse. : )

I think some of it goes like this:

"Pure easy listening, settle down

On the pillow soft when they've all gone home

You can concentrate on the ones you love

You can concentrate, hey, now they've gone"

Mendelssohn Violin Concerto.

I like this better than his piano pieces.

Haim, nothing too taxing but very pleasant. Steve Swallow on electric bass makes the trio sound slightly different from the norm.

Ramsey Lewis - Steinway concert grand piano & Fender Rhodes electric piano

Cleveland Eaton - acoustical bass & electric bass

Morris Jennings - drums & percussion

First released in 1972 (i think) ...this far more recent Columbia re-issue is lightweight vinyl but it lets the music out okay.

This must be the 3rd or 4th time i've played this album since it arrived on Tuesday.

I'm rapidly getting into this fabulous funky fusion mixing trio.

Would dearly love to get a vinyl copy of thier 'Time Flies'...

Do any of you forum jazz experts know where?

I always have a problem with soundtrack albums, I think they lose something without the pictures.

Unless like Easy Rider they are just a collection of songs which can live in isolation.

TGWTDT is rather haunting though.

Been listening to this a lot in the car the past few weeks.  Really enjoy it.

Good call.

Very different to what I was expecting, somewhat more 'dance' orientated on some tracks, along with some excellent 'analogue esque' sequenced bass lines and rhythms.

Nicely recorded as well which always helps.

Another for the permanent playlist :-)

Another Southern fried masterpiece (on vinyl of course)

MOR at its funkiest - the cover of Superstion is wonderful (click here to listen). On the old black stuff.
