What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

Posted by: Richard Dane on 29 December 2011

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Hello Haim

It is very good and some reviewers in the French HiFi-press classify it as a reference disk.

I only had one listen yet, but I like it very much.

Recording quality is also (one could say "of course") stunning.

I can recommend it without hessitation.

BTW. I also like the Schumann very much. Widmann is doing very nice things for ECM

Aleg,

Thanks for the recommendation. This recording received excellent reviews in US as well. I am also a big fan of Alexander Lonquich since I heard his Plainte Calme disc of French composers (Faure, Messiaen and Ravel).

Sorry Debs,

The original sings it for me with the SHM coming a close second and the box set third.

Now this.

Lucky her i say! : P

The best cd version is at the top of this page where it belongs : >

You should stick to the black stuff, Stu

Ronnie Montrose (guitarist) passed away earlier this month - here's a heavy rock classic that deserves more attention.

Any reason for them almost copying JM Jarre Chants Magnetique cover art?

I'll ave a word see what he's got to say for himself. He'll be mortified when he finds out he's been rumbled

Robert Fripp’s Soundscapes, Live 2010 - Parts 1 & 2 + Interviews...

http://www.wnyc.org/shows/newsounds/2010/dec/22/

Fripp set up in the secular cathedral of the World Financial Center for a two-day residency in early December of 2010 and we’ll hear part of a live performance recorded on December 4, along with John Schaefer’s interview.

A couple from Underworld.

Denis, the Fripp sounds interesting.

Jamie,

I saw Robert perform soundscapes twice. Once, when he opened for Porcupine Tree @ The Junction, Cambridge (Deadwing premier) and secondly @ Norwich Cathedral. The PT crowd were too noisy & impatient to listen but, the Cathedral performance was magical. I downloaded a podcast performance he released of Starless, but stupidly deleted it from my Desktop. I hope he performs again, but unlikely with KC I think (not economic in the UK).
