What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

Posted by: Richard Dane on 29 December 2011

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Anyway, links:

Thanks Denis

He did some Frippertronic before a couple of the Projekct One and Three shows I saw. I also have a couple of the Frippertronics albums, very pleasant ambient music.

I wouldn't get completist about his ambient stuff, but it is nice to have a few albums.

Sorry Debs,

The original sings it for me with the SHM coming a close second and the box set third.

Stu.

But you don't know and can't say that now because you gave away the best 2xcd remaster away to ex-wifey.

Lucky her i say! : P

The best cd version is at the top of this page where it belongs : >

You should stick to the black stuff, Stu

Debs

The original black wax will always be the best.

How many times have we bought remasters remixes and rehashed versions of our favorite albums only to go back to the first copys we owned

I've searched through my record collection and decided to put this LP under the spotlight for interrogation.

Mravinsky/Lenningrad Phil: Shostakovich Symphony No.15

'72 recording.

Shostakovich's last Symphony.

Wonderfully disturbing.

Mravinsky rocks on Shosty.

I wish every live classical recording sounded like this JVC ( Victor Japan ) vinyl. I normally do not care for Japanese records,( usually too goober-ish) but this one sounds just excellent.

Ist play on this double vinyl set...

Despite me struggling with some complicated rhythm strangeness on side one, EP’s voice is sublime again, and seems to be key in holding things together.

The musicianship is there too in bucketloads, and I’m enjoying the sensation of wondering how much this is to my liking, and thinking it will be a grower.

The clarity is audiophile and nicely uncompressed, the vinyl quality is top drawer too, but just seems odd it’s loud on volume, need to turn my amp down lower than usual for vinyl.

I have a feeling this may not win over a younger fan base, being too jazzy,

but I’m loving it : )
