What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Vinyl/and special edition CD arrived today. High expectations for this. Here goes.....
On CD:-
This anthology is excellent, but look for the right cover and not the new release with the same name which contains re-recordings and is rubbish. This collection is the really McCoy from Eddy and the boyz.

It delivers. Excellent. A grower of an album, mellow, acoustic, atmospheric, right up my street. Not what one would expect from the two participants, which is a good thing.
First
Hadn't been played in ten years I suspect, probably won't get played for another ten. 'Ordinary World' is OK, but all a bit unengaging, with fluffy production.
Now.
Neither fluffy or unengagaing!
'Eldorado' from this box set:
Hi Andy,
This is the early 80's box-set of 3 re-issued ELO albums.
(not sure which year exactly it was released)
But it was about 1981 ish that i purchased this box set brand new, which were probably the worse vinyl in my collection for loud clicks and warps, and not to mention the horrid non-musical pressings, so one day i was glad to be rid of them.
But being daft sometimes, a couple of years ago i purchased another box of these horrors, although they're not as bad as my original set, but still very poor pressings, i don't think the Eldorado in this set is any match for the original from 1974.
But earlier this year i purchased the latest re-issue Eldorado on 'Music On Vinyl' which imo is in a totally different class to my grubby old pressing of Eldorado in the 1980 box-set.
I recommend the 'Music On Vinyl' pressing very highly, it's in stock at jpc Germany, and Rockbox, if you're interested : )

Video Premiere: Mark Lanegan Band – Harborview Hospital (4AD Session). Not heard anything by Mark before. Playing four tracks from Blues Funeral has enticed me to try out the album.

+1 - it is superb as are all the MoV I have bought - can't speak highly enough of the guys.
Eldorado is just about my favourite album ever (well certainly one of them) and so I'm delighted to have it on vinyl again. I have several CDs including the SHM from CD Japan which is pretty good.

after this I usually play
On CD.
Could I ask why?

Debs
Debs,
Thanks for the info regarding the re-issue, Rockbox is very near to me so may well give it a punt.
I had not played the box-set for a long, long time until I had the DV-20X fitted about a month ago. My copies do have clicks and surface noise but the pressing sounds pretty good to me, very enjoyable.
For some reason the receipt is still in the box, bought from WHSmith for £9.99 on 24 Jan 1980!!!
Andy.
Ist play on this double vinyl set...
Despite me struggling with some complicated rhythm strangeness on side one, EP’s voice is sublime again, and seems to be key in holding things together.
The musicianship is there too in bucketloads, and I’m enjoying the sensation of wondering how much this is to my liking, and thinking it will be a grower.
The clarity is audiophile and nicely uncompressed, the vinyl quality is top drawer too, but just seems odd it’s loud on volume, need to turn my amp down lower than usual for vinyl.
I have a feeling this may not win over a younger fan base, being too jazzy,
but I’m loving it : )
Debs
Debs, we just saw her perform this music here in Boston several weeks ago. It was a great show
Now, now!
That put a smile on my face. Now go and have some strong coffee!!

Really good sounding vinyl.
