What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Tony,

Have you ever seen the film?

Stu.

Stu.

I haven't seen it. Must have have been the hell of a gig at one of my favourites all time venues, the old Hammersmith Oden.

But used to listen to them back in the late 70's and, although not the most accomplished band in the world, they did leave their mark wherever they played.

Will try and watch the film sometime.

Not sure where the tour film was shot?

I remember it being shown on tv in England in the 70s though.

I very big production with so much going on on stage.

Quite radical at the time.

Their must be lots on youtube now.

The last recording to feature the wonderful late Elton Dean on saxophones and Fender Rhodes, bassist Hugh Hopper, guitarist John Etheridge and drummer John Marshall.

Stu,

As far as I know it as recorded in 77(Hammers Odeon) and released as a double album in 78. I Have seen videos on YT but did not know of the existence of the film.

WWOVANH - Doobies is a regular big black spinner for me. Great stuff. Much overlooked and underrated.

As recommended by Sweet Billy Pilgrim - "If you like your Sylvian, No-Man etc... you may well like this by the amazing Steve Lawson in collaboration with Calamateur. High in drama and crackling sonics; we love it. Plus, they operate a 'pay according to your will' policy. Great stuff."
