What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.
Anyway, links:

I like this a lot. Highly recommended.

Seems appropiate...
The Black Crowes - Amorica.
A really nice record.
Vinyl ~ CBS (p) 1977
I like this one better than the recent release by the Doric String Quartet ...
Aleg, I've been on the fence about whether to get this 2fer, haven't made up my mind about Gringolts in Schumann after finding his violin sonatas disc a bit of mixed bag - his tone and manners are huge, and this music isn't really suited to the power tools Gringolts and Laul bring to the party. At other times, though, I'm greatly enjoying that disc so it may be a grower. The quartets in particular are new to me (except #3) and I enjoy the Doric's reading very much (better than the Takacs in #3). What makes you prefer this one?

I always find that difficult to explain, not being a musician myself I find it difficult to expres my feelings about music in a way that communicates it clearly to others.
The thing that strikes me most is that the Gringolts Quartet has a better balance between the instruments and keeps the tension of the piece together in a much better way.
The Doric Quartet IMHO doesn't keep the tension as well and goes from tense to flacid and can sound a bit 'whining' at times. A sense I don't have with the Gringolts performance.
I have the Doric performance on CD and it hasn't been able to grab me, from the beginning really. While the Gringolts performance could keep my attention, though I listen to it through 44.1/16 flac streaming, but I would certainly consider buying it.

Interpol - Interpol
Nice follow up to '3 Rounds & A Sound.'
First listen. Continuing to explore their back catalog. 2 songs in ... good stuff.
Vinyl (received last Thursday);
First spin, grabbed today from the bargain bin. Wish the performance was a bit more edgy, in line with the brilliant cover, but this is turning out to be a faithful adaptation of the Goldberg.
Cheers,

More Black Keys!
Rubber Factory
Some blues.

Thanks, Aleg - I'm in a Schumann / Bach period. (These two go together well, for obvious - lots of Bach in Schumann - and much more so for less obvious reasons. They were sharing a vibe, or must have been on similar recreational substances.) Will likely spring for the Gringolts quartet recordings soon.
