What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

My first encounter of the Schumann trios 1 & 3 with the Voces Intimae (on period instruments, including a rather fine pianoforte) left a good taste and appetite for more. So, first spin of the recent recording by Andsnes and the Tetzlaffs. First impression: the piano sounds SO much better than a pianoforte in this music! Not all good, as the modern piano is a far more dominant beast and pulls the balance towards itself, but these players are really good at sharing the attention, and allow each other to shine. If I didn't know better, I'd have thought this was the work of a full time trio.

Interesting Interview of Tatiana:

The Milk Carton Kids - Prologue

Male singer/songwriter duo; folk.  I picked this up just from seeing they opened for Over The Rhine this past Fall (did not get to see that tour).  It has been growing on me.  Laid back album, fitting for what I have listened to this evening.

Still with the Decca classical LPs, now this (but am listening to the Stravinsky rather than the Walton)

Great, vibrant performance of the Stravinsky masterpiece by Dohnanyi and the VPO. Super recording and a very good vinyl pressing too...
