What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

Posted by: Richard Dane on 29 December 2011

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Did you know that there is a 'Jubilee' Special Edition available with extra tracks? I have that too.

I really enjoyed 'Miles Runs the Voodoo Down', I always liked 'Great Expectations/Orange Lady' which follow, originally on the 'Big Fun' release.

I will spin some more Miles later tonight.

Miles Davis : Seven Steps: Complete... 63-64
I really like this line-up, although probably blasphemy to many I prefer George Coleman's sax playing to Wayne Shorter. Perhaps not a ground breaking band, by Miles' standards, but a very listenable one.

J.S. Bach: Martin Stadtfeld

I like Martin Stadtfeld and if one wants to call his forte it is probably Bach.  A nice recital here mainly centered around the Two & Three Part Inventions.

Nihaela Ursuleasa with her second album.  I have liked her since I heard the first few note of her first album, Piano & Forte.  You could easily hear it in her playing but this album is riddled with photos of the character that I think aptly shows you her character and what you naturally hear in her playing.  A fun-character full of life and vivaciousness to her playing so you will never hear her play or sound like some other middle of the road pianist who plays it safe.  You can also see that mischievous glint in eyes and smile.

Ravel: The passion and soul of Anna Vinnitskaya.  She portrays the deeper and darker vision which happens to be to my liking and largely in alignment with my character.  This is Vinnitskaya's third album and I am quite happy to be able to spend time with her as her playing always moves me.

Debs, one of my favourite records. As is this cd collection that I bought when it was released.

There are several multi disc cd boxes going for around £30 at the moment and I am considered one! Have you listened/got any recomendations. That said I may not actually need it.....but!

Hi James,

You must be psychic!

Only a few hours ago I ordered this…

150th Anniversary Edition - 18 discs / Amazon uk  £30.99

I don't have any of these cd's in my collection so for me this is a good buy, just hope the recordings and masterings are good.

Did you see the BBC4 prog about him on Friday evening?

I found it far more interesting than that Pink Floyd rubbish that followed
