What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Wife in Spain, lights down, curtains drawn, 'Since I've Been Loving You' at concert volume levels: transported back to when I bought the LP in 1970. Bliss

If you have never listened to a Cure album?

Try this on vinyl or CD.

Its a desert island disc.

Yes, but not an original unfortunately.

George,

I would be happy with a not original on vinyl?

I didn't know there was a diff on the vinyl's?

I love the original CD because it just flows and one does not have to get up to turn it over.

The new Mark Kozelek album arrived yesterday, and I got chance to give it a listen earlier today. Not sure about this one, on first hearing it didn't have anything that really stood out. Not as dark as 'Admiral Fell Promises'. Wider instrumentation than the last album too, but nothing particularly stuck with me. There was one track with electric guitar that sounded good though.

I didn't really get chance to concentrate on it though, and it is 73 minutes long, with 17 tracks, so a lot to get through. Also a bonus disc, and a free live album came with it, so more listening.

I have been in an instrumental mood lately (Arc, Miles Davis mostly), so perhaps it hasn't arrived at the right time for me. Also cricket to watch, which has been pretty good!

More listening this week, no doubt.

I'm going through some vinyl, thrift store, purchases.  Some interesting Nonesuch records including the above.  Probably seen about 5000 copies of this in Goodwills across the country.  Verdict: Not bad.  Listenable even.

MJQ on XRCD; fluid pace, liquid sound.

Paid a bunch for this on vinyl, but I must say that it is a near religious experience.

Loved their last one; the only uncertainty is whether to pick this up on CD, vinyl or both.
