What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Rubinstein/Wallenstein: Grieg Piano Concerto

Lovely in an old fashioned way. Listening to Rubinstein is like wearing a comfy shoes.

On Japanese vinyl. Their best album IMO.

I don't know the recording, but what a lovely album cover. I love many jazz covers from the 50's & 60's, and I presume this must be one of the same art departments, or designers, or certainly influenced by them. Subtly different and with classical formality too. Just a lovely design.

Recorded in 1968, but it could have been yesterday as the present day composer refuses to die; surely one of the great composer of the twentieth century.

Jamie,

This cover is a bit of an odd bird for the RCA.
Altho, if you take a look at all the Living Stereo covers during the same period there isn't much consistency to their cover designs. But this Rubinstein cover is pretty clean unusual for RCA classical covers.

My old time favourite *flat design* covers are done by Alex Steinweiss.
