What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

I have left a few comments about this in the latest CD bought thread. Basically disappointing.

playing CD no.3 of 18 x CD box-set

Beautifully crafted music ripe for this time of year : )

So far i’ve played just a few [orchestral] discs from this set and all highly enjoyable so far in, and no complaints here on mastering quality.

The music itself tends to drift in and out of different moods with occasional brooding magnificent use of bass, but regaining the course of placid and calm in the main.

I’m very pleased with this purchase, and happy it will take me some time to explore this set more fully, possible many years but I appreciate the way it maybe played as background tranquillity or enjoyed in full organic flavour from the comfort of one’s audio-sofa sweet spot for the more absorbing experience.

Schumann Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op.54: Argerich/Rabinovitch-Barakovsky

it's been a while since I've heard her A Minor. Powerful performance that still holds up. Wonderful sounding CD, too.
