A couple of discs from this fantastic 11 CD +1 DVD book set.

Chris Rea lovers should not be without this set imo.
Its now down in price to near what it was when it came out.
The DVD alone imo is worth a tenner of anyones money just for the interesting content.
So grab while you can.

This is also a very nice performance, esp. The Chausson is played with verve, energy and sensitivity.
A shame this ensemble han't released more records (only 2 available from the last 5 years).

On evidence of his recent concerto and chamber music recordings for DG, Vadim Repin is a stunning violinist. I hope he gets the chance to rerecord the Sibelius concerto.

James Levine's fantastic ring cycle. Listening to the last act of Die Walküre, the entry of the valkyries. The ladies, impressive as they are, are in terms of power no match for their counterparts on the Keilberth, Böhm or Solti recordings (also due to the recording balance, which favors the orchestra), but the Met orchestra sounds absolutely gorgeous and Behrens is a wonderfully sensitive Brünnhilde. From then on, this last act of the opera only gets better with James Morris' unequalled Wotan. IMO his farewell scene is only bettered by himself, for Haitink.
Cheers,
EJ
