What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

On Vinyl.

Dunno why, pulled this out on vinyl - it must be 23 or 24 years since I last played it. I think I bought it around the same time as I got my LP12. I remember it "sounding great". It still sounds good, in that '80s overproduced way, but my god, has it dated - and badly!

There's slap bass everywhere (and it's friggin' annoying), the lyrics aim for wit but just seem a bit creepy, and the strident "wackiness" is just wearing. Tunes are quite good though.

On Speakers Corner vinyl. Sounds great. Made 25 years before the Dolby album I mentioned above and still sounds as fresh as the day it was recorded. Amazing.

I don't know what Miles has just said, but I love the look on Frances's face: "Just who does this cat think he is??"

For this album, Kate Royal has assembled a quirky collection of songs from Schubert to Copland, based on the common theme of love, marriage and betrayal. The styles are very diverse and I naturally gravitate to the Schumann and Schubert songs. I purchased this disc for 'Gretchen am Spinnrade', and I bet that Heff wouldn't need his blue pills if he'd hear Kate sing this!
