What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Youssou N'Dour  singing Chimes of Freedom, on Radio Paradise, interesting.

Steven Wilson 'Live in Santiago 2012' (FM broadcast)
Includes new song 'Luminol', which reminds me of Yes around 'Relayer' a bit, as in a group of really good musicians really going for it, but still with great song writing.

Arrived in the post today. It's a fantastic compilation of music by Fred Judd, an overlooked British electronic music pioneer:

Kevin,

Where did you get that from?

His books are a good read.

Jamie,

 I like the art work.

Great performances by Suk & Co. Wish I had the companion disc with #3 but it's become very hard to find.

Ken,

Pieces de viole des Cing Livres 1686, 1701, 1711, 1717, 1725

Amazon have it for £32.59, (or a little less less via the other sellers). Link ~

Actually, i don't have this 5 x CD box-set in my collection...

The one i have is Marais - Suitte d'un Gout Etranger (Suite in a Foreign Style) 3 x CD set - which uses more or less the same cover-art!

Anyway, just put my order in via Amazon : )

EJ,

thanks for saying about this set, it puzzled me for a while when you said, five discs(?) ...but i'm all sorted now! : )

ordered, but ended up buying quite a few more CD's and spending a LOT more than i intended -- ah well...

the following seems to be a good find, and am looking fwd to spinning it:

enjoy

EJ, the third Trio and the cello sonata is still available on the uk amazon.  Not sure why you do not want to spent around 25gbp for it?  It's a bargain compared to the one on amazon.ca where it is going for about $100.

It looks like I'll have to come to foreign lands to get this double Decca too.  Thanks for the heads up.  I have the Brahms Violin Sonatas (Katchen/Suk) in my wish list as well.  I think you were responsible for putting that there too.  Notwithstanding my creditcard, thankyou...

Just played my much loved 11 track Pro-mo copy of Peter Gabriel's UP.

Now his wonderful Ovo.

A couple of reissues to follow the football

Roger The Engineer

The original Dark Side of the Moon by Medicine Head

I think, but am not sure, another band brought out album with the same title over a year later, but it was not as good as the original - if you haven;t heard it then try it, the reissue is superb, as is Heavy On The Drum their previous offering.

Disc one of this set.

What a great band .

They should all be worth millions by now?

All got ripped off by record companies/ managers and the like in the 70s.

They used sell out Madison Square Gardens and others in the usa as soon as tickets went on sale.

Shame they didn't have Peter Grant.
