What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Oh yeah Kevin,
I didn't think I'd ever see that on here. I have an Austrian copy on CD (Spoon CD35) and it looks like it's going for silly money now.
John.
Haim,
is that a golf club getting swung about by Mr Lewis in the picture above?

That building looks like St Georges Hall Liverpool
Tate Art Gallery off Trafalger Square - skeleton borrowed from Barts hospital.
By an amazing coincidence I was listening to this

whilst browsing the forum and this cover shot came up.
A 30 minute doc on Blue Horizon - well worth listening to but only 3 days left.
... some more from the very late 70's

Hi John
By a weird coincidence I'm now playing this - also on vinyl...
First play
A fantastic, often overlooked, performance of the four last songs, and a great scene from Salome for starters. Recommended!

relaxing first play of...
mark kozelek - live at lincoln hall
Ahead of the release of the Can box set on Monday, I'm in a Krautrocky kinda mood.
So, this on vinyl:
Listening to my first Walküre again, for the first time in years. Wow, what a performance. Certainly in the last act, Haitink's singers outclass contemporary rivals Levine and Barenboim, helped by Haitink's faster speeds. Also, I remember being slightly bothered by the distant recording, but it now sounds satisfyingly natural to me - perhaps the result of different replay equipment. Goldberg is a great Siegmund, his exchange with the Valkyrie reaching an emotional climax that rivals the best Ring recordings of any time.
Haitink's Ring received flak for its Brünnhilde, Eva Marton. By this time, she had already had a long career and there is some wear and tear - it became worse for Siegfried and Götterdämmerung. She retained much of her vocal beauty as long as she doesn't pressure her voice, but the love duet in Siegfried and the opening of Götterdämmerung are not the spirit elevating numbers they can be. For that, go to Flagstad or Nilsson (both with Windgassen as Siegfried), or Hildegard Behrens (persuasive, despite her smaller instrument).
But also here is, in my view, the best Wotan of the ages, James Morris, in his best recorded assumption of the role. He is helped by the more distant miking, and appears more committed than he did for Levine (which BTW is probably not a fact - he did an interview for Gramophone at the time, in which he implicitly seemed to prefer working with Levine. If so, he certainly was professional enough not to show it on this recording).
Cheers,
EJ

No idea, Debs. It is you and Doug who are the experts on finding golf clubs on CD's art work.
