What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

Posted by: Richard Dane on 29 December 2011

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Anyway, links:

Peter Katis, anyone else a fan of his work?

I've really enjoyed listening to Interpol this year, after stumbling across them in January. It's funny how a band can have existed for 10 years or more and you'd never heard a note from them before.

EJ, I'm intrigued by your comments and will try to source this seemingly hard disc to find.  I wonder if "warm, deep glow" and Kovacevich can work in the same sentence?  I guess I haven't heard him much in the context of chamber music so I look forward to this one.  I see another Brahm's disc with du Pre as well...

This is a lot mellower rendition than his earlier 9th.

This set does not have his usual *insect* like precision.

This was his last recording before he passed away.

Hi George,

Nice to meet you at last as well.

This was another prompt I received on Facebook today.

Another one I received last year was Jo Hamilton - Gown (a must for all 'Air Piano ' fans )

The samples sound great. Good musicians with a known pedigree. Let's hope Tevor Horn still has his 'recording ears' in good working order.

As George says, another good recommendation from Denis - thanks.
