What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Ken,

Pieces de viole des Cing Livres 1686, 1701, 1711, 1717, 1725

Amazon have it for £32.59, (or a little less less via the other sellers). Link ~

Actually, i don't have this 5 x CD box-set in my collection...

The one i have is Marais - Suitte d'un Gout Etranger (Suite in a Foreign Style) 3 x CD set - which uses more or less the same cover-art!

Anyway, just put my order in via Amazon : )

EJ,

thanks for saying about this set, it puzzled me for a while when you said, five discs(?) ...but i'm all sorted now! : )

ordered, but ended up buying quite a few more CD's and spending a LOT more than i intended -- ah well...

the following seems to be a good find, and am looking fwd to spinning it:

ken

well, what do you know!!!

i am in copenhagen right now and just watching TV and just happened by a channel called DR K and who is on? Jordi Savall talking about Viola da Gamba instrument -- he says next to the human voice, its the most beautiful musical instrument. talked about and played Marin Marais too...  great to actually see him play!!

what a lovely coincidence!

Jascha Heifetz playing violin concertos by Korngood & Rózsa, somehow expect the world to turn monochrome and have Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone pitch up.

John Mellencamp - Mr. Happy Go Lucky (CD)

Can't get enough of this J.N. recommendation at the moment.

Not a top drawer recording, but the content far outweighs any concerns there.

Love this album. Thanks Stu for the original recommendation ‘Conditions’ cannot make my mind up which I like the best both are brilliant.

Regards Graham.

Some goosebump-inducing, deep house gems for a rainy Saturday afternoon, Fort Romeau's Kingdoms, on 100% Silk. Turn it up...

The whole album is excellent, but right now, I'm particularly loving the lofi crackles and distortion on 'Say Something'.

^ For any DJs with a Phonosophie P3 and Linn LP12 who like this kind of thing (whatup, kuma!), that's 125 bpm.
