What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Haim,

Thank god for air conditioners which are going on 24/7 for a whole week. I used to love this humid and hot weather.

Kuma,

My commiseration is due, I guess, in regards to your heat wave.  If it makes you feel better, I just listened to my regular size 12" Clearaudio reissue - without any air-conditioning.

Florestan,

Do tell. How is the Clearaudio reissue?

I ask cuz, US MSRP is a bit dear at 50USD for a totally unknown origin reissue.

Production information on these newer Clearaudio releases are non existant so I am betting they didn't use the original analogue master.

Concertos for Strings and Harpsichord

If this was a football match it would be 5 - Nil to the strings by half time. In fact the poor old harpsichord only gets a distant jingle in when the vigour and volume of the strings is kind enough to occasionally recede, for a few bars.

The middle andante’s are the most enjoyable [imho] things slow down to sensible speed in keeping with the melon sellers donkey on the cover picture, I couldn’t imagine that galloping around at red priest allegro pace.

I’m liking the RV.132 most of all here with it’s interesting tunefulness, however this is only attributed to Vivaldi (in its only source - a copy in West Berlin), which is actually by another composer… does that mean in a handwriting or score unknown?

The cover details makes no mention of the harpsichordist, maybe after hearing this recording he or she may have asked not to be named : )

I think it's pretty good, a return to the quality of the first two albums.

Great box set, a much overlooked line up of Miles' quintet.
