What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

The dance was a bit of a wash-out today, but those boats sure came in handy!

Two, thirty-plus year old LP's (p) 1977, & 1981, both mint condition [the vinyl looks brand new]

cleaned a couple of days ago by my own fair hand and the beautiful music most vibrantly liberated via the Sondek.

Playing them again today.

The concerto most worthy of mention here, is RV.169 (P. sinf 21) "Al Santo Sepolcro" in B minor, unusual for being only a two movement but the the 1st Adagio molto is wonderfully spacious, deep, emotional, and well ahead of it's time imho.

Vivaldi's music seems to make far more sense to me when slowed down and allowed to breathe easy, or slowed down requiem like for those who can no longer breathe.

Debs

p.s.

"Al Santo Sepolcro" translates into "A Holy Soaking" which comes from an overcast day in a very wet July when Vivaldi came home on his bicycle in a torrential downpour that soaked him to the bone marrow.

Yes indeed Denis. Nice one. That's reminded me to give this a spin.

A very, very fine choice Jono. I'm having an early-period Factory type day today, so:

Both on glorious vinyl.

Kevin,

Have you ever seen ACR live? I did at Portsmouth Poly back in 1986(?) and they were really fab. the best bit was when they all started swopping instruments mid tune without stopping.

I am planning on a run through Heart and Soul for my return journey home on Thursday afternoon in the car.

HI John (J.N),

Don't know why, but Rough Mix passed me by. Good reviews, but expensive at the moment. I'll look around.
