What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

Posted by: Richard Dane on 29 December 2011

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Anyway, links:

Nice purchase! : )

Being Decca they're probably quality made records,

and great value for money at the price.

How is the performace?

Debs

Great performances Debs, just finished listening to them this morning. I'm a bit ambivalent about VA, sometimes I find him a bit, er, exuberant, but I like these performances a lot - the 4th and the Emperor are the best I can remember (but I'm not an expert by any means).

Superb pressings too - 1973 (probably just pre-oil crisis), nice thick vinyl and not a click to be heard anywhere...

Another junk shop purchase from yesterday. Just put it on now...

2 CD set.  CD1 is the American stereo album; CD2 the UK mono version.  Just finished listening to the mono.

The Wall on vinyl.

I think it is an original pressing but hope someone can enlighten me? The lyrics on the sleeve (record 1) has 'empty spaces' listed as 'what shall we do now?' and a completely different lyric to 'empty spaces'. The song on the record is 'empty spaces' though.

Anyone know of a good web-site that can provide info on 1st pressings?

First play on CD. I couldn't justify the the import duty of the LP

Mine is like that too. I bought it within days of its original release, so mine are definitely early pressings.

CD, 25th Anniversary :-

Purple albums can wait  'til tomorrow so that I can give them some stick, which seems only right.

My feeling is that a lot of Purps will be played tonight.
