What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

BNJMN "Black Square" is definitely quality, dark and percussive, perfect while we wait for another transmission from the elusive Actress-new album soon I believe?

Lindstrom is hit and miss for me. Liked "Where You Go I Go Too" but not the o e with the female singer on.

I think for that 'new Balearic' genre I prefer compilations ad playlists for a bit of variety. I can recommend Fred Deakin from Lemonjelly's two disc compilation and also the Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve compilation.

reubs, I looked this up after you posted it a few days back. I like the songs with Victoria Bergsman, but after a couple of listens, I'm not sure about much of the rest yet. I might have to get the BNJMN album (and his earlier one) that you posted soon after though, so thanks for posting that one.

The new Lindstrom album that's on the way looks much better then his last. This one still does it for me...

One of the best live albums I own. I especially love the different arrangements of the familiar songs on this album.

Hi Howard

I know of them through postings by Pat K and through a fascinating blog site posted by Denis A (I will dig it up and post it).

Enjoying 40 Days very much, another of their albums was picked at the blog site as one of the top albums of 2011.

regards

Jeff A

Shawn Phillips "Second Contribution"

The opening track -  She Was Waiting For Her Mother At The Station In Torino And You Know I Love You Baby But It's Getting Too Heavy To Laugh -  is just stunning in a Richard Harris sings "MacArthur's Park" sort of way, filled with Ripple Flashbacks.

You should see the film!

Very very good imo.

(would have been excellent if they'd got away with it)

Debs

Excellent musical choice and maybe my favourite Film Noir.
