What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

I really didn't enjoy Third; Machine Gun is incredible, a stunning single, amazing drum programming, and The Rip is pretty great too. The rest was a bit 'meh'.  Also, one of the blokes really has no sense of humour and comes across really badly in interviews which just puts me off as well.

Currently listening to Dipset, "Dipset Reunion". Vado and Killa Cam over the top of Araabmuzik beats.

I've always loved Third (especially 'The Rip') and, if anything, I like it even more now. They are a bit mardy though, I'll give you that. : )

The Weeknd, 'Loft Music'.  Thanks to Chief or pointing me to the Devotion album by Beach House; it is 'Gila' that this track is built around.

"You see my brain melted..." - great opening line

Hey, no probs.

On a similar theme, I noticed a few days ago that 'House of Balloons / Glass Table Girls' isn't on his SoundCloud page any more (presumably because of the Siouxsie sample) so I expect it'll get left off the official release if it's any time soon.

Not unlike Nico Jaar's album getting a swift re-release towards the end of last year minus the Ray Charles track.

Hi Richard,

Great album!  This was my introduction to the band back in '86.  Opened up a new world of music to me.  Sounds cheesy, but true.

Ravel Bolero: Monteux/LSO

Very well done in a sense that he did not turn this tune into a usual garrish affair.

Playing the last 3 records in this 10 x LP box-set (p) 1958 & (p) 1959

The sound quality is noticably better with less room reverb' with these 3 final discs, fabulously bassy, dark and moody.

Produced marks are from much later in the decade, perhaps these were recordings from a later time and place giving better results (?)

Isolde is playing this with care and precision, and with not a duff dink to be heard from her [well serviced?] pedal harpsic.

Highly entertaining imho : )

Hi pz,

The album is American Beauty by Grateful Dead.

Well worth a listen IMO!

Richard.
