What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

So good - it deserves to be shown twice (if this works )

Chopin: Piano Concerto No. 1, Maurizio Pollini & Paul Kletzki/Philharmonia Orchestra

180g Vinyl

About one month after winning the 6th Chopin Competition in Warsaw in March 1960, the 18 year old Pollini was recording this for EMI.

The jury at the competition consisted of Rubinstein, Kabalevsky, Malcuzynski and Nadia Boulanger.

I once had the Concert Classics release of this [from new], but the music did not catch me. It might now, but more likely from Noveaes and Klemperer [of course Polish born] by now. No fireworks, just music making of the first quality, though the recording is second rate ...

Stu is right, this is a great compilation. The only problem when waiting  to buy some "items" at knocked down prices is that people have usually moved on. If not, one would still be listening to Bing Crosby. Actually, people still do!
