What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Kev,

Take a punt on this month's Mojo. The cover CD is 15 slices of pure electronic gold including Hamburger Lady by TG.

A sllllllooooowwww performance of Bruckner #7 - I need more time to acclimatize myself to this one. I believe Giulini was one of Nézet's mentors and here he clearly tries to out-Giulini the old Giulini.

Cheers,

EJ

I'm really jealous of those of you who get to see her live. She never comes around these parts.

After getting accustomed to the sound, i jumped to 'disc 5' and tracks 8-10 sonata no.17 in D minor. After two plays I put on the same sonata from my Clara Haskil box set [decca] which is a 1955 recording.

This immediately surprised me how much better it sounded, far better resolution, beautiful fluidity, realism, closer softer volume, vase with flowers, and Clara to show me how it’s done, more of everything : )

Although... having run the Regis set down somewhat, it’s not actually all that bad, Kemff’s play is very admissible to the workings of my own mind, and i want to explore more of this set.

Thanks Deb.

I might pick up a few Kempff's Beethoven Sonata from the old DG pressing to see. I love his Decca Chopin pieces but his Beethoven Sonatas from '65 are sort of meh... except I liked his Appassionata.

Haven't heard any Haskil's Beethoven yet.
