What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Backhaus/Wand/Vienna Phil: Schumann Piano Concerto & Waldszenen

Not the most romantic & passionate rendition of the Op54, but the contrast between Backhaus' no nonsense style and finely polished translucent orchestration under Wand is pretty special. Backhaus was almost 75 when he recorded this set and I think this is a fine example of what he means by 'musical rhythm'.

Backhaus sounds a bit Richter-ish on my favourite 'Prophet Bird' out of the Waldszenen collection.

Fantastic sounding harpsichord, sometimes it can sound as strung as a guitar, and wonderfully played in many differing styles by George Malcolm.

Glad i purchased this set now : )

IMO one of Los Lobo's strengths is there ability to take a variety of musical styles and influences and turn them into their own unique music. "By the Light of the Moon" exemplifies this strength. Great songs, fine musicians, great music!
