What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

Posted by: Richard Dane on 29 December 2011

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Arrau's final Beethoven records are full of the characteristics that make him so distinctive: deeply-considered, an organ-like sound built up from the deepest recesses of the Steinway, and carefully worked out structure. In his approach, on disc at least, there is little room for spontaneity and now and again he sounds heavy handed - but in the long run, he is one of the pianists I keep returning to.

Cheers,

Shirley! It should be listen and learn?

George he's called Tony, not Shirley. Unless you know something we don't know. Or, have you been watching too many 'Airplane' movies from the '70s?

Two days ago I was talking to my friend and cycle consultant about what we - either of us - would do if I or he were lucky enough to win the Lottery. I said that I'd spend two or three years converting myself into a dead alcoholic! He said that I was a man after his own heart!

I still enjoy a film like "Shot in the Dark." Pink Panther series with Peter Sellars!

I don't really enjoy serious films!

Only documentaries, or biographies ...

Haven't listened to this one for a good 15 years. Still sounds as fresh as when it was first released back in the 70's.
