What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

Posted by: Richard Dane on 29 December 2011

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Listen to the vocal multitracking, superb example of a master at his work.

Hope you managed to get your technology issues resloved. I think this will prove to be a bloody good album, cos it's pecking into my head after the 2nd play. I will start a thread after I've gathered some more info .

Hi Flettster,

I'm waiting for my CD to arrive. I think I must have seen you post this before, to which I'm greatful.

I just found this session on the excellent KCRW - Morning Becomes Eclectic hosted by Jason Bently. The drummer is Awesome

Thanks Denis I did post this a little while ago. It's a real grower.

But I think I need to thank you for this one..........

It turned up in the letterbox this morning. I'm giving it a first spin. Awesome, thanks mate.

Also very excited by your post on the new Fink live album. Bloody too much good music and not enough funds !!!

Keep well.

Flettster,

I'm pleased you like Temporary Dive. Ane Brun has been one of my best discoveries this year, especially seeing her 'live' in London where she was spellbinding. I think I'm only missing 1 or 2 albums now, but every CD has been great. I've been unsuccessful in getting a ticket for the Alt-J UK tour in Oct/Nov. Looks like I'm a bit late coming to the party. "Oh Well", as Pete Green used to say.

Did you come across Jo Hamilton on your local radio recently? Jo has been to NZ working on new material and I think she may have done some promotional stuff. I'd recommend her album, Gown, which has a Kate Bush sort of vibe to it for reference (and probably the first commercial 'Air Piano' recording).

Thanks Denis,

I'll search out the Jo Hamilton album. I don't believe she got anywhere near Christchurch. Might have missed her though.

Cheers

Kempff/Leitner's Beethoven Piano Concerto No.4.

Pretty much massacred Ashkenazy/Solti's 4th in terms of insights and bringing tangible human feeling out of this tune.

I don't know what makes things tick but when it happens it's pretty cool.

This one now goes on top of the No.4 heap.
