Ahh that photo brings back memories -- hand writing a cassette box label for tapes I'd made. It was especially fun with Grateful Dead bootlegs, as I'd add a little artwork, etc.
Using "Tag" on my Macbook to edit tag info isn't the same.
We often talk about the nice aspects of playing lp's, but creating these tapes also involved more than just listening. Yet something else lost as we've moved to digital. (But I am not looking back . . . other than nostalgically)

hahaha Bart ...... remember "all the issues" when accidentially mis-writing on the Cassette labels ... no room left to redo it :-)

On CD.
This is a tremendous album. Dan Penn is truly one of the greats of American music and it is showcased here on an album I'd recommend to everyone and anyone.

On CD
Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham are masters of Southern soul.

Beethoven concertos 1&2, by Radu Lupu and the Israel Philharmonic conducted by Zubin Mehta.
Lupu's pianism is characterised by a subtle, effortless charm and plain-spoken beauty, and a dynamic range that isn't restricted as well as different from the norm: he rarely goes loud, but frequently dips to ppp without sacrificing fullness of tone or sounding timid.
These concerti are excellent examples of his art: Lupu isn't after the thrill of the moment, and takes his andantes really slow, but doesn't bore for a second, no matter how well you know these works (and I've had his recording of #2 and #4 for over 20 years now).
Cheers,
EJ

Graham,
I'm pleased your enjoying your MOV reissue of this great album. I have the original which still has the 43/9d sticker on the sleeve. You're correct in saying it's a good 'studio' album and it's very well recorded. Another album in a similar vein, also on the Blue Horizon label, is Elmore James 'To Know A Man'. It's another 'studio' album with banter between Elmore and the producer.
I always enjoy Otis Spann and he's good on this album. His 'Biggest Thing Since Colossus', with Fleetwood Mac minus Mick Fleetwood (OS didn't think he was good enough and brought in S.P. Leary) is another superb album I can recommend.

Hi Steve.
Thanks for your recommendations. Do you know if the Otis Spann & Elmore James are also MOV reissues?
Regards
Graham.

Hi Graham,
The Otis Spann LP has been reissued by Pure Pleasure and can be found at Amazon. I've had good experiences with PP reissues. I don't think the Elmore James LP has been reissued by anybody. I don't think it's been issued on CD either so you'd have to buy an original. It isn't hard to find but would cost about £50 to £60 for a decent copy.
Good Luck
Steve
