What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

They were a blast live. Saw them a number of times at various clubs here in Chicago (his/their hometown).

PRAT in Spade's on this album.
Play Pink House's and turn up the volume.
I dare you to sit still.

Beethoven Piano Sonata No.27 in E Minor, Op.90:
Somewhat of abstruct tunes which take many turns and twists which Morovec plays like a Schubert piece. He does so well pulling out the shades of grays. Beautiful flowing 2nd movement again with a touch of sadness. Stunning transparency throughout both in recording and performance. He's got the knack for being self-effacing and let the music speaks out to the listener if you let him.
On CD
Hauntingly beautiful indie/tribal music from round the world. Dreamcatcher is a beautiful fusion of western rock and world music which manages for a change to combine the best of both. We love this, especially late at night with the lights down low and a glass of something, CHILL OUT!!

A pleasant brief encounter with...
Both better suited for after dark playing I think.
"Bill Fay is one of English music's best kept secrets — a genuine national treasure. Back at the dawn of the 1970s, he was a one-man song factory, with a piano that spilled liquid gold and a voice every bit the equal of Ray Davies, John Lennon, early Bowie, or Procol Harum's Gary Brooker. He made two solo albums but his contract wasn't renewed, leaving his LPs and his reputation to become cult items, later namedropped by the likes of Nick Cave, Wilco's Jeff Tweedy and Jim O'Rourke. But he never stopped writing, and the music kept on coming. Now, in his late sixties, he has produced Life Is People, a brand new studio album that shows his profoundly humanist vision is as strong as it ever was."
Is Dreamcatcher the name of the album or the artist ?
Sunhouse - Crazy On The Weekend
This is the only CD where I bought a 2nd copy in case I damaged/lost/wore out the 1st copy
It would never get ousted from my top 20 bestist list.

Dreamcatcher is the first of two CD produced by David Lowe, the second being ' What is in Between' with Benjamim Zaphaniah & Mieko Shimizu. Both are currently available on CD from Amazon but ‘Dreamcatcher’ looks expensive.

I love this album. Thank you so much for the recommendation. When I told a colleague at work about how fantastic Sun House are he said he had bought 10 copies to give out as Christmas presents to friends when it was first released. Still looking for any other releases but not had any joy at present.
Regards Graham.
A grower... I was lukewarm when it came out, but this is a great Brahms I. Pollini is as powerful as he used to be, but sounds more at ease than he used to do in this concerto. Thielemann looks like a weird partner on paper, but his romantic style is an ideal foil for the pianist.

Hi Graham,
Sunhouse only made Crazy On The Weekend, then split up. Gavin Clarke joined Ted Barnes & Ali Friend to for the band Clayhill. Clayhill made two albums - Small Circle & Mine At Last, plus a couple of EP's (check Amazon). I saw Clayhill's last gig @ Kings Place, London about 3 years ago? They folded because of financial difficulties. Gavin & Ted contributed to some of Shane Meadows films (This Is England & Somers Town).
I spoke to Ted after a Gill Sandell gig earlier this year and he confirmed he has produced a Gavin Ckark Solo album, but cannot get it released.
Gavin has also worked with UNKLE and there are some excellent songs on YouTube to look out for. Also Ted Barnes co-produced the last Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo album, "Alamanac", which is fantastic.
I really wish Gavin Clark could have his music published and appear live again, as his fragile expressive voice makes going to gigs such a rewarding experience. I'm glad to have found another fan.

A fabulous album and one that's never very far from the cdp.
I also have by Clayhill, Mine At Last, Cuban Green and Small Circle. They're good, but not up there with Crazy on the Weekend IMO.
Recorded live in 1981 at the North Sea Jazz festival, The Hague, Holland. Excellent sound on the SteepleChase label of Denmark.
Just listened to the last Prom of 2012.
I am not always that impressed with this concert, but this years was something very special.
