What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Renée Fleming in an all-star cast of Strauss' Rosenkavalier. I thought this was the soundtrack to the  DVD that was earlier released, but it seems to sound significantly better - the box mentioned that the performance was 're-edited'. A bit of a halfway house approach: no substitute for a well balanced studio recording, but better than simply dumping the audio track on a CD.

Cheers,

EJ

Goodness, that's very exciting! I treasure his two early albums in the same way as I treasure Nick Drake's three before he died. (And I suggested here some time ago that the Naim Label should see what Bill Fay would be capable of today. Never mind, if some other label has beaten them to it.)

I'll order this new one now.

Thanks, G.

Thanks, G.

Really nice to see some forum members giving this album a chance.

It's not often that I break my forum silence to champion an album but this one is, imho, worth it.

2012 has definitely been a year (for me) of old artists who may be considered past their prime who have just come out and blown me away. Bob Dylan - Tempest,  Bill Fay - Life Is People, Garland Jeffreys - King Of In Between and most of all (imho) Sinead O'Connor - How About I Be Me and You Be You.

Sinead O' Connor - How About I Be Me And You Be You.

Leave your prejudice at the door because this is one of the most heartfelt albums of 2012. A genuine transformation from enfant terrible to serious recording artist. My album of the year.

"Iconic Irish singer-songwriter and performer Sinead O’Connor releases her brand new studio album ‘How About I Be Me (And You Be You)?’ through One Little Indian. Her ninth studio album, and the latest release in a career spanning 25 years and millions of record sales worldwide, ‘How About I Be Me (And You Be You)?’ is as showstopping a performance as her silver jubilee deserves, and ranks as one of her best and most confident pieces of work so far."
