What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Haim,

You have put me in the mood for the Cello Sonatas as well.  This music is among my most favourite anyway so it doesn't take much to get in the mood.

With the Maisky / Argerich, do you have the second disc with the Opus 5 and the variations?

It's that time of night over here. The time for something mellow.

The cello sonatas on cello and pianoforte. The pianoforte sounds shut-in and small compared to a modern grand, which has the benefit of allowing the pianist to let rip and still not overpower the cello.

The études, from Thibaudet's complete Debussy Vol.2. Not Debussy's most accessible music but Thibaudet makes a good case for them.

Aleg, the Maurice Ravel recording is a single CD.  The Franz Schubert recording that I am listening to at the moment is the double CD.
