What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

In my opinion maybe his his best solo effort, I love the under produced production of this album, almost demo quality in parts. Bull rush/magic bus my fave
Great album maze. It took me years to find a decent vinyl copy here in the US. No domestic vinyl release and rare as hen's teeth.
On Vinyl.
This is simply the most beautiful album I have listened to this year. It is clearly a labour of love by Bill and all his collaborators / friends. There is spirituality to some of his songs that take you to another place. The whole album is enchanting, beautiful, and full of a life lived songs. The best album of the year by a country mile IMO every home should have one.
Graham.
One of there best albums.
They are all better than very good though.

I have to agree. A very special record

This recording of Carmen was made shortly before Abbado committed his to disc. The first two recordings of the Oeser edition, with spoken dialogue, and both with Domingo and Van Dam. The conducting couldn't be more different: Solti giving a much more violent reading but not forgetting the opera's subtleties. This record's pitfall is its reverberant and boomy sound, but overall, it doesn't diminish what is a superior performance and one of the best opera recordings ever.
Cheers,
EJ

I haven't listened to this in years. I remember listening to the broadcast of this concert on the radio in 1976. A very well recorded live concert and great performances from The Band, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, Dr John, Ronnie Hawkins amongst others.
Sounds just great on my system.

Steve,
I would think you must have loads of brilliant albums you have not played for years in your very large vinyl collection?
The shut eyes open the book and stick a pin in works for me at times when i want something to play.
Stu.
Very true Stu. I try to vary my listening as much as possible. Sometimes I'm just spoilt for choice.
Interesting to listen to Bob Dylan on this LP after listening to Tempest. On Tempest he sounds like he's smoked too many the stogies he seen with on the inner liner. Good album though.

A great record. Joni's "Coyote" remains one of my all-time favourite live tracks. Also Neil Young's "Helpless". Neil Diamond also stands out for me.
