What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

On Original Vinyl.

This classic early solo album is like a collection of short stories and contains some of Cale’s most poetic lyrics. There is a subdued, almost melancholic air about most of the songs, Paris 1919 is a very “literary” album. The beauty of his lyricism is haunting. IMO his best work inside or outside the Velvet Underground can be found in this album.

The first time I listened all the say through.

Going through some new releases again.

I like this Arcanto Quartett very much, also their previous release of String Quartets by Ravel, Debussy and Dutilieux I like very much.

This Quintet by Schubert is very well played, with good dynamics and some firm playing where appriopriate.

Recommended.

Graham.

Nice one Graham. I can't seem to keep JH's 'Perfectly Good Guitar' out of my shiny beer-mat spinner of late.

John.

Hi John.

Just received my copy of JH new album ‘Mystic Pinball’ on CD. Thought you might be interested in my first impressions. Brilliant SQ and production by Kevin Shirley, 12 songs, recorded in Nashville backed by his touring band, Kenny Blevins on drums, Patrick O'Hearn on bass. Sounds on first listen 'in my lunch hr from work' like classic Hiatt.

Regards Graham.
