Claudio Arrau recorded a complete set of Beethoven sonatas in the 60s, but kept recording individual discs for Philips throughout his life time. They have become difficult to find, I think I have about half of them.
Compared to his earlier recordings, these are even more searching performances, and the sound is fantastic. Speeds are on the slow side, but as always with this pianist, not a second is wasted.
Cheers,
EJ

I must admit that prior to this album I never really 'got' Cowboy Junkies but this is superb: "fragility, emptiness, loneliness, beauty, chance, loss, desperation, the delicate balancing act that makes up a life.".

The first of the superb set of recordings of Bruckner's last three symphonies by Haitink and the Concertgebouw Orchestra, and one of the last analogue recordings produced by Philips.
For some obscure reason, these recordings only enjoyed a short shelf life and were never reissued - technically as well as on an interpretative level, they are a league above the earlier versions that are included in the complete cycle. Haitink has never done anything better, IMO.
