What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Anyway, links:

Bought this based on some stuff I heard on internet radio.  He's a gifted player, but the music is just bland as cold, dry, toast.  Nothing I hated, but not one cut that I really liked.  Consummate background music.  Very disappointed.

That is a very cool album cover.  Why, I don't know, but I like it.

Leonard Cohen 'Dear Heather'.....not listening - positively bathing in it. Sumptuous.  G

Back to an old favorite. Concerto #17 is one of Mozart's best starts of sugary but develops into a wonderfully subtle performance by Uchida and Tate. Concerto #18 is less interesting both orchestrally and for the soloist, although Uchida's soft touch makes the most of what's there - her long held trill above the (mundane) orchestral theme in II is exquisite.

Cheers,

It all happened just yards from me.

It can't have passed by Paul Lewis unnoticed and it disturbed me greatly during my listening.

Aleg, EJ,

It is unfortunate that the disturbance happened during the recital.

Earlier this year a fist fight broke out in the box seat at the CSO during the concert.

I was not there but apparently, during the closing of the second movement of Brahms Symphony No.2, a man in his 30s began punching a 67-year-old man over a dispute about seating in the box.

Anyways, I've bought a ticket for the same Tour you guys saw as it turns out he's coming around to Chicago again.

Interestingly Kissin is playing a week later at the same venue and playing Schubert also but all the good seats are gone.

Doc,

It could have been more interesting than sitting through Brahms' 2nd...

Cantelli's Debussy and Ravel.

I really need to get more involved in orchestral classical music - my knowledge is rather thin in that area.

That said, my chronology on the mono remasters continues:

Somewhat cheesy songchoices...but great anyway.

I totally forgot I got this Karajan Debussy/Ravel record earlier this year.

Unfortunately it's only a Japanese DG pressing and not the German original.
