What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

On CD.

In anticipation of tomorrow evenings BBC Two Arena documentary (9.45pm). Magical Mystery Tour. The album feels more like a collection of singles, but maybe that's because every song sounds like it could have been a hit single I'am the Walrus, Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane. All You Need Is Love, Fool on the Hill, Baby you're a Rich Man and The Magical Mystery Tour. The exception being the goofy/weird instrumental "Flying". The psychedelic epiphany in which The Beatles brought forth some of their best and most innovative efforts. IMO.

Peace & Love Graham.

Matador 2 x LP © 2012 : (

With irritating auto-rhythm, and musicianship that often sounds a mess.

Really should have stuck to the same old well proven style and worked this new material in to suit, would have been a far better album than this disappointment.

Incidentally, does anyone know anything about the 2012 release of this (and The Colour of Spring) on Amazon. Not listed as remaster. Thanks.

Neil, I have a copy of the 2012 release of Colour of Spring. Back shows it as a digital remaster 1997, then dated 2012. I guess it is a re-release of the digitally remastered version from 1997? Can't see anything to say the 2012 version has different mastering etc. Sounds good though, though I don't have the original to compare it to!

Quite a few people rave about the SACD's but unfortunately they now cost an arm and a leg.

Essential listening at least once a year or your brain will shrink. Scientifically proven.. or this could be a lot of bo........ks,  but that's a different thread already extensively covered.

Really enjoying this return by Love & Money.

James Grant is in fine voice and the band are playing quality pop/rock songs...

Cantelli: Ravel

So expressive. A touch of Mravinsky in him.

Cat Power "Moonpix "

bought today thanks to CP thread. Brilliant after only a couple of listens. Nice mix of "...Community" and "Greatest". Singer/songwriter with extra studio samples and work. Reminds me of Jolie Holland  - try "Catalpa" - superb.

Mike Hughes(get an iPAD) - good point - title of this forum is "what are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested.

Not, "post an album cover that tells me nothing about the music"

Just listening to this very album now with a DR Hi-Cap on my 122x. One of may favourite albums and sounding the best I've ever heard. I'll follow up your recommendation. Thanks.

Still one of the most impressive recordings of Bach's gamba sonatas. These guys were hugely influential in how this music has been performed since.

Cheers,
