What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

On Original Vinyl.

Following on from Stu’s post regarding the 10,000 Maniacs. You may want to try this. I have seen the Indigo Girls twice open for the Maniacs. This 1989 debut album was my introduction. Crisp guitar work and haunting harmonies became the stock-in-trade of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers.

This powerful duo followed the lead of such greats as Laura Nyro and Joni Mitchell. There are lots of brilliant female singers, but these two take a lot of beating IMO. You can find this fabulous CD used on Amazon for .98p I promise you will not be disappointed. Bought it myself only last week the SQ is very very good.

Regards Graham.

On Vinyl.

We went to see RH in concert on Tuesday. The Sheffield City Hall is a beautiful venue completely fitting for Richard home city gig. From start to finish the professionalism and sound were amazing. The crowd were filled with so much love for his set and the atmosphere was perfect. There were moments of laughter in between songs at his comical anecdotes... his songs had a timeless quality, captivating a crowd that ranged from teens to "oldies". The stage set was a faithful reproduction of the album sleeve - fantastic lighting - simple but brilliant. My partner was brought to tears at the emotion of the whole evening. ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! Lisa Hannigan was also brilliant.

Had purchased this a while ago based on all the favorable comments here.  Listened to it a few times and put it on the shelf, not really impressed.  This morning was the first time I listened to it in months.  It just clicked and I will leave it out to make sure I listen to it more.

Not sure if it falls under the 'grower' category or I was just in the right mood to get into the music.  Anyway, I can finally see what everyone was going on about.

On CD.

Blues album from ex-New York Dolls frontman DAVID JOHANSEN.This has to be one of David's finest cds. His voice was made to sing this music. It is wonderful that he is honoring these often neglected songwriters. His voice and arrangements are powerful. His versatility is a testament to his deep knowledge of music. If you're a fan of the blues, this CD is a must have. Kudos to Johansen and his band for keeping this vital music alive in the 21st century!
