What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

Posted by: Richard Dane on 29 December 2011

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

I think the mix of posters to this thread has been changing and there is therefore a lot more classical. I personally don't bother posting here too often now so you get a lot less of my music. However, I am listening to rather a lot of classical at the moment and reading posts from EJS, Florestan etc with interest.

  Lontano,

Personally, I wish you would post more here too as I have gained a lot from your vast musical knowledge over the years but this has also cost me a lot of money too.

Wait, this is all craziness.  Lontano & everyone else, stop posting here and sharing good music.  Actually, everyone stop posting in the Music Room.  This place is insane and causes me to spend far too much on enjoyable things like music.  And then there is Kuma and few others who have ignited that evil path back to vinyl within me.  By February, I shall dip my toe back into that bottomless pit.  I blame all of you music loving members here.....

Thanks Florestan.

I have been playing this a bit this week as it was mentioned on the Chailly thread as being even closer to the performance (conductor position versus row 5) than the Chailly. It is very good but I still have a bias towards the Chailly, which I find has a fuller sound. It is all pretty marginal though and all performances very enjoyable. I am waiting for some other Jarvi's to drop through the letterbox.

Good live recordings.

Stu.

The Steve Hogarth Marillion is good also. Marbles is his best album.

These are all Steve Hogarth live recordings.

I did send you and Oliver a mail, Mark bought it,

I might get a vinyl of marbles off the back of hearing this set.

After a good CDP now.

It's just my personal opinion, Stu.

The album never got the critical recognition it deserved  when it was first released and I do agree with you:her voice is just sublime and  It's one of her best works to date!

Picked up an original UK issue Lp of this the other day.  Gave it a clean and have just been spinning it.  Such a great album, with two of the greatest rock tracks ever; Born To Be Wild and The Pusher.

Just enjoying this from Big Joe Turner

Hi kk

If you like BJT you'll love Super Black Blues. BJT is on form and the piano of Otis Spann just sublime. It was recorded just before Otis Spann died. I've never seen a reissue of this on vinyl, only CD, but a second hand original is only listed as £20 in Record Collector.

Cheers Steve, checked on amazon and wow that is an expensive CD.  Record collector it is!
