What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Based on 39 variations of Spanish 'Jácaras'; meditative, involving and very living record.

2 x CD contains a lot of very fine music but imo the compilation doesn’t always flow well from one track to next. The soprano recorder sound can get a bit shill sometimes, and in my case fatiguing over the two discs .

Nice though, good for reference, may cherry pick the best tracks for further investigation.

I am not surprised at this cuz, Grimaud always wants to be the Alpha dog.

A gorgeous bass clarinet ironing the wrinkles of the day.

I just ordered this yesterday and I cannot wait for it to arrive.  My excitement is first and foremost due to the repertoire; chamber music is what consumes a huge part of my passion for music.  Without listening to this yet I would have judged this pair as having similar musical personalities.  In theory, this pairing should work well.  They are not passive musicians but the antithesis and I like this aspect about them.  Not to discount Sol Gabetta's role here, it is clear that Hélène Grimaud is the more experienced (and older) musician.  It is only natural that she be the "alpha" dog (or should that be wolf) here.

so it wasn't my lucky day to find a mint Arrau/Davis Beethoven Piano Concerto vinyl but I was psyched to find this mint Fou Ts'ong/Maag album.

Love Fou Ts'ong's Chopin pieces and I like what I have heard of Maag in the past. But put two of them together and this Schumann Piano Concerto is a bit of a disappointment. Too cool and chilly. Where's passion? Something isn't gelling.

I discovered the ‘The Drifters’ during my soul period.Clyde McPhatter was the founder of this legendary group. During the time he was a member, the group featured his heavenly falsetto on hit singles like "Money Honey" and "Such a Night." After going solo in 1954, he continued his reign on the top of the charts with such classics as "A Lover's Question," "Without Love," and "Treasure of Love. Clyde McPhatter is acknowledged as having one of the most compelling voices in the history of R&B.

Not bad, but don't  think they will win X factor this year.
