What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

Posted by: Richard Dane on 29 December 2011

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

1980s Vinyl.

This is a great Ry Cooder album. Featuring some great musicians including Jim Keltner on drums, Tim Drummond on bass. John Hiatt also contributes. All numbers are short rocky numbers with catchy tunes. From the breakneck old soul classic, "6345789", and ‘Down in the boon docks’ right through to the slow sexy burn of the final "Never make your move too soon" and my favourite track "Every woman I know, Crazy 'bout an automobile, and here I am standing with nothin' but rubber heels. This album is brilliant.

An 'oldie', but came out on top of a recent blind cd comparison and I do like it ....

Unfortunately it isn't grabbing me by the short and curlies. An OK album. Great funky lead off track.

Truly awful.

Doug,

Thanks for posting this one a while ago. I knew the impromptus as played by Rubinstein and Ashkenazy, but Perahia's quicksilver interpretation is quite something else.

Cheers,

Great voice but to me the album is over produced.

Obviously she has lost a bit of sparkle in her voice due to her age but I think it is a good disc.

A very early Folia ostinato; M.F.'s voice is miraculous.

Naims love to deliver it; volume up as possible.
