What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

On double black stuff.

This album is very clever.

He is touring it  round the world.

I would think a very interesting gig to see and hear live.

Finally finishing up the set - really pleased that I bought this box set.

Chopin's 2nd (actually 1st) concerto with the 24 preludes as 'filler'. Silly programming aside, Pires and Previn sing themselves beautifully through this concerto, which almost comes across as a masterwork. No doubts about the stature of the preludes, and Pires really lets loose in these - she looks at this music from all possible sides, and uses rhythm as her means to bring these miniatures together. It's not my most preferred reading - #13 comes across a shade anonymous, for example, which makes #14 not stand out sufficiently, although she plays it beautifully. But it's definitely in my top tier list. But still, top tier.

Cheers,

EJ

Doc,

You just need to keep your eyes peeled for a good deal on the stereo set now and thank god you don't have a record player.

So you dont have to buy the vinyl set thats released next month and then the mono vinyl set early next year.

Its good to see you are enjoying them.
