What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Listening to Trouble Town now on Radio 2.

Good words and playing but his voice is a bit weak but it did grow on me once i got used to it.

I was expecting fuller deeper vocals,

He is very much like a young Bob Dylan.

I will buy the album because i want to hear more.

Inspired by a today's Chicago Symphony rehearsal of Brahms Symphony no 1 & Double Concerto conducted by Osmo Vanska.

Highly recommended.

Mozart / violin sonatas K.526 & 547 / Perlman, Barenboim (1991)

Romantic, very entertaining performances of Mozart's last two violin sonatas. The whole set of sonatas from these gentlemen is enjoyable. This particular disc was one of my earliest CDs.

Cheers,

Father, Torelli's pupil Evaristo dall'Abaco made a quite good musical education for his son, Joseph.

Mainly based in Verona, had 95 years from the year of 1710, his birth.

Excellent performance; sound is the usual Raumklang quality.

RAPEMAN - TWO NUNS & A PACK MULE

The Pixies thread reminded me what a great album this is by Steve Albini , Noisy post punk to cleanse the ears ..

The rapeman name taken from a Japenese comic caused a lot of media furore at the time of its release in 1988. Demonstrations outside gigs etc .Possibly the album  would of recieved better attention  with a more conservative band name. still a great record though.

Seen & heard him a few times now,I agree with your views with his vocals.

His lyrics are very good listening now on Spotify! Plenty of live performances on you tube.

Recital / Homage to Maria Callas / Angela Gheorghiu (2011)

Delightful if inappropriately named recital, as Callas isn't known for many of the arias here. After a long career, Gheorghiu's voice still sounds in excellence shape.

Cheers,

On Vinyl.

Robert's new album was produced by Kevin Shirley (Joe Bonamassa, Aerosmith, the Black Crowes) in just two weeks but don't expect either raw blues or heavy rock. Robert does what he has always done, beautifully-crafted, laid-back soul blues but Shirley does add big band accompaniment on "I'll Always Remember You" and  strings to "I'm Done Cryin'". This is a beautifully produced album.
