What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

Posted by: Richard Dane on 29 December 2011

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

This is my first listen to Adam Harasiewicz and I definitely will be trying to get all of his recordings now but probably the Nocturnes next.  Strikes me as like those of his generation who weren't in a hurry to catch the next trolley.  I like those who take time to make music and offer more of a concentration on producing a beautiful and pleasing tone.

Harasiewicz was born in Chodziez, Poland and was the first prize winner at the 1955 International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition.

Harasiewicz is my favourite Chopin interpreter for just all those reasons.

Are you familiar with his Decca 10 CD box of the complete works of Chopin?

only $28.50 on amazon market place

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer...F8&condition=new

Thanks Aleg, on my Wish List now...

Do you know if the Decca set is the same recordings as the Philips recordings?

Eventually I'm eyeing the complete Fryderyk Chopin Society recordings which include a host of pianists like Harasiewicz, Wunder etc.

I love this album. For anyone who has listened to and enjoyed other Lloyd Cole albums I can't recommend this one too highly.

Hi Graham,

It's actually the same album as this one (which is the "official one")

Apparently there was some kind of dispute with two record companies and two versions of his debut solo album was released (the music is identical but the cover art is different). I managed to find my copy just recently from a nearby s/h shop. Crosby, Stills & Nash actually do not perform on all of the songs (and not all of them feature in the same ones). Different music styles are included (from country, R&B to delicate ballads). All in all not so much like Lovin' Spoonful but still I quite like this. The other version than mine, I have understood, is quality wise better though, so if you are interested in and try to find this record go for that one.

I'm going to stick my head above the forum etiquette parapet once again and wholeheartedly recommend this album.

'The Church of the Good Thief' by 'Right Away, Great Captain!'

Hard to describe but if you like Kings of Leon, My Morning Jacket, Connor Oberst, etc., then you may like this.

Available on Spotify.
