What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

Posted by: Richard Dane on 29 December 2011

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

First listen.  Has a familiar soul/blues feeling to it.

Very good record.

May I recommend you an another approache?

Not very easy to get it but I am sure you will collapse after listening.

Chords,

I'm so far behind simply because I am so busy trying to find all the great music you listen to and getting it on my wishlists.  This one is proving to be a challenge to find.....

Anyone managed to find a source on CD?

Schubert: Wandererfantasie, Sonate D.845, Impromptus D.935, Moments Musicaux / Lewis (2012)

Splendid second installment of Lewis' Schubert recital.

Cheers,

Great recording

Great playing (only using the best session players/singers).

Great guitar playing (naturally!) with the return of Morph the Cat's H- Gang wah/distorted guitar on the opening track Slinky Thing.

I'm a big fan of Steely Dan and Donald fagen solo, but this is not grabbing me so far. Like the opening track Slinky Thing (nice guitar and ethereal jazz harmonies) and track 4 Weather In My Head. The latter has a couple of guitar solo's that only really top notch players can pull off - Jon Herrington strikes again.

Running Order Squabble Fest

Half past four? Half past four?
You said half past ten to us
No dry ice? No dry ice?
Hey Jason, they’ve got no dry ice
There is no way on earth
They should be on after us
Five K? Five K?
They can’t even play their instruments

Listen squire, who d’you think
Sold this thing out anyway?
Them lot there? Them lot there?
They haven’t even got an album out
Sound man, sound man
We’ve got our own sound man
C&D? C&D?
We’re not going on after Chas & Dave
I don’t care, I don’t care
Hello boys, there’s a change of plan
You’re going on after Crispy Ambulance

This Leaden Pall

Granddaughter doesn’t want to know
Ever since she got into the charts
Ask her what perfume she wears
“Self-Righteous” by Anita Roddick
The doctor overrates me in my room
And with the regularity of doom
A geezer with a double-necked guitar
Comes and tells me Tales from Topographic Ocean

Turned Up Clocked On Laid Off

The three men I admire most
The Father, Son and Mickie Most
Took the last train for the coast
And rendezvoused with Peter Glaze
To kill Don Maclean

And remember when you walk through a storm you get wet

How many of you know that song by Blackfoot Sue: “I’m Standing In The Road”
Was penned by the burly physio of non-league Farnborough Town

I read the news today, oh boy
Svarc rejects new Layer terms

And it feels like I’ve just been seen by me mates coming out of a Styx gig

When I had my loft converted back into a loft
The neighbours came around and scoffed
Friday night and the gates are low

And it’s raining
