What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Isn't part of this thread WHY?

So I'm thinking.  Like Olympia Dukakis in Moonstruck who asks "Why would a man need more than one woman"

WHY would a man listen to this?  I'm just asking.

Posted on: 22 October 2012 by Gale 401

Because i want to.

Beethoven Piano Concerto No.3.

Beautifully played out 2nd movement. Lewis captures the silent pain under the romantic melodies. His sense of timing is impecable to create the breathing quality. His finger work is simple but says a lot. Orchestraion is equally simple but there is no obligatory frivolous gilded notes. They expose a simple structure of the tunes but create an emotinoally effective moving picture. Less incissive and icelike compard to my *reference* Richter's No.3. Simpler and more down to earth but equally strong. He's a bit like a modern day Backhaus but wearing heart on his sleeve.

I am going to explore Lewis' Schubert this winter but so far I like his Beethoven a lot.

Kevin, is this the one with the dodgy sound anomaly at the start of someday?

Great artist though, sadlly missed.

I do wonder what all these great artists would be doing now, were they still around.

Donny is a soul titan Maze, agreed a real loss to music. This LP doesn't have "Someday..." on it.

Tracklist is:

SIDE ONE: What's Going On/The Ghetto/Hey Girl/You've Got A Friend

SIDE TWO: Little Ghetto Boy/We're Still Friends/Jealous Guy/Voices Inside

Have you heard "Extensions of a Man"? Brilliant album.

Love Moon Duo but haven't heard that one - will check it out, thanks.

Loop's later recordings are less aggressively riff-based, the sound is more diffuse. All good stuff. Have you heard Main, Robert Hampson's project after Loop? They were really good.
