What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

Posted by: Richard Dane on 29 December 2011

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Take away the vocals and you have the backbone of the Motown sound, superb.

On CD via unitiserve.

On good old vinyl

I got a job in Aberdeen
I was only seventeen
I met a girl on Halloween
She was nowhere to be seen
She disappeared down a sewer
I sent my brother to pursue her
They ran away and fell in love
I hope they’re in the middle of

Well my name it is Dai Young
I’m the King of Welsh Goth

The village I come from
Is near Abersoch

I was brought up on Bauhaus
And black bedroom walls
And I had my first Snakebite
When I was in halls

Now my overweight girlfriend
She sits and she crimps
Her mother’s convinced she’s
Communing with imps
Her brother’s alright though
He’s a good lad is Wilf
‘Cos he’s into Placebo
And Cradle Of Filth

What did you think?

Posted on: 26 October 2012 by Tommo

Why would anyone be interested? Because he has the most incredible voice. Actually sounds like a saxophone sometimes to my ears. And it sounds EASY!

Where it all started really ... it was the 1980s and popular music seemed to be in terminal decline ... and then along came this and thankfully things were never the same again.

Are they the greatest band I've heard in my life .... not 'arf.

Quite probably the best record in my collection ... a masterpiece ....

Safe to say if there is a better collection of songs than this on one album then I've never heard it

Outside Goldsmiths’ coughing up blood,
Turner Prize judge gasps “Christ that’s good -
Leave it as it is, it’ll get first place
We’ll call it a full shift at the coal face

Praise for the wardens ready to fine
Anyone caught saying “graphic design”
Rag-mag seller said I’d be in pleats
Only when he’d been cleaned from the streets
Oh I could squeeze my lemon ’til my blues went away
If I had possession over Pancake Day

I think you might be spot on there.

Just as one brilliant song comes to its end the next one starts.

I have  the BBC Joy Division Oven Gloves on my CD.

I would love Steven Wilson to have a play with a vinyl remaster.

I will give Nigel a ring on Sunday and put it to him.

Altogether now ...

Today I saw her brother
Who said she’s with another
They’ve gone away together
You’d better speak to Heather
And so I spoke to Heather
At first about the weather
And then about her sister
And how I really missed her
Maybe she could tell her
I’ve still got her umbrella
She prized it rather highly
It saved her once in Filey
It came on all torrential
And therefore it’s essential
You tell me where she’s living
So it to her I’m giving

Apparently she’s seeing
A bloke who used to be in
Acidic Regulator
From near the equator
I couldn’t bear to listen
Or stand to see them kissing
Unable to forgive her
I jumped into the river
I’m on another planet
She’s on the Isle of Thanet
I wake up on a trolley
And realise the folly
I tell them I can manage
There isn’t any damage
And as I’m being led out
I get my A-to-Z out

Think it was Lenny Kravitz who said Listening to Jimi playing Machine Gun was to hear him pouring out his soul.

Hi ewemon.

To be honest the vinyl is not that brilliant! Think that's why a had forgot about it. On the other had "Nothin But Love" is excellent in all departments IMO. What are you listening too at the moment?

Regards Graham.

The only other I have played today is the new Neil Young- Psychedelic Pill.

Psychedelic Pill? Not out on CD or Vinyl yet. Do you have contacts we don't know about?

My order with Amazon for the vinyl at £17.99 is still OK. The price is now £75!
