What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Mozart / concertos 26 & 27 / Uchida, Tate (1987, original issue)

Cheers,

EJ

edit: there is a strange sound around the 6 min mark of the finale of KV537, like a shout cut short. Looking into the cause (recording error or surface blemish), sure enough the Gramophone noticed this issue in their original review.

I still don't get this tune.

Come to think of it, I still don't get Brahms.

Haim,

I've watched it a long time ago. Sagan's novel was hugely popular along with the Bonjour Tristesse with Jean Seberg. ( sort of chic films, tho )

Altho, I can't remember a thing about the story sort of like this score here. :x

Now this is a bit better than Rubinstein/Reiner set. At least the music dose not sound like a stodgy robot.

And I endorse the comments regarding Queen, 'Sheer Heart Attack' gets a regular play via the Lenco here at the Simpson household!

The complete show from 1974 - cd on 'Follow That Dream' label. One of those occasions where re-mastering has actually done some good.

I doubt a better live performance ever followed and there were plenty of them.

Couldn't they have loaned you a little Nait to fill in?

Tony,

You know where I live if you want to hear what they sound like before they come back. It's worth the wait my friend. You should have taken a leaf out of my book and taken a weeks holiday whilst they're away. I was only without music for 3 days!

Thanks for the invite Steve but I'm off to sunny Cumbria for ten days so the wait's not too onerous. The sound system up there's not too shabby.
